HEAD OF LOGISTICS

JOB TYPE: Full-Time (In Office)

LOCATION: South Africa, Somerset West

REPORT TO: Chief Operations Officer

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Head of Logistics is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s overall Logistics strategy and operations in order to maximize the process efficiency and productivity. The Head of Logistics plays a crucial role in the management of product and materials through all warehouses, internal and external.

KEY TASKS
Warehousing:
• Accountable for the warehousing system through Syspro and associated warehousing software
• Responsible for the control, receipt, storage and issuing of stock items
• Responsible for the management of physical stock through regular stock counts, cycle counting, adjustments and reconciliations
• Responsible for managing stock takes (all warehouses) and compiling full stock take reports with detail on variances
• Responsible for monthly reporting of all stock adjustments done in the system
• Responsible for managing stock locations in the system versus the marked physical locations in the warehouses
• Responsible for the monitoring of stock levels and maintaining the correct levels required to minimise risk, this will include working with procurement to reduce stock to acceptable levels
• Responsible for reporting to management, stock performance and trends
• Responsible for the timeous kitting and correct issuing of material to Production
• Accountable for the housekeeping and safety in compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) regulations as prescribed by legislation

Logistics:
• Accountable for the import and export of goods including export, licence compliancy
• Responsible for the management of freight forwarding services
• Responsible for the delivery process of parts or goods, including documentation and tracking up to the end destination

Line Management:
People Management:
• Time and attendance management
• Identify resource requirements as needed
• Ensure staff adhere and comply to company policies
• Support recruitment process
• Conduct performance management
• Support Health & Safety
• Management of poor performance and upholding the disciplinary code policy
• Management of tool & equipment needs / budgets

People Development:
• Identify and manage the team’s personal development & training plans / budgets

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field
• Postgraduate qualification or professional certification will be advantageous
• Formal training or certification in People Management or Leadership would be beneficial
Experience:
• 8+ years of progressive experience in logistics and warehouse operations, including at least 4 years in a senior or leadership role
• Proven experience in managing complex logistics functions including warehousing, inventory management, import/export compliance, and freight forwarding.
• Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (preferably Syspro)
• Demonstrated experience with inventory planning, stock accuracy, cycle counts, and full stock take processes
• Hands-on experience in compiling and analyzing logistics reports and data for performance and trend analysis
• Experience working closely with Procurement and Production departments to ensure efficient material flow
• A solid track record in team leadership including performance management, resource planning, coaching and development, and enforcing company policies
• Familiarity with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations applicable to logistics and warehouse environments
• Previous involvement in import/export operations, including customs documentation and compliance with licensing requirements
• Experience in the manufacturing industry
