NewSpace Systems (NSS) is looking for a Production Manager to join our highly skilled team in Somerset West, South Africa. NSS specializes in the manufacturing of advanced satellite components. The successful candidate will be responsible for production management of aerospace products, to ensure efficient assembly of products to the highest quality.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BSc in Engineering, or equivalent degree related to manufacturing of high-reliability space or aerospace components

Experience & Knowledge:

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in manufacturing and people management
  • Successful track record of managing production projects (>5 years) preferable in the aerospace or defence environment
  • Knowledge of production methodologies, visual management systems and tools
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Experience and organizational skills in supervision and management of production activities, staff, and facilities.
  • Sufficient technical and organizational skills to respond to typical electronics production issues
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality Management systems.

Job Specification

Responsibilities:

Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer

Production Management:

  • Oversee manufacture of aerospace products for different projects;
  • Set out the weekly plans and daily work activities to follow the required production targets agreed with the Project Management Office;
  • Assign tasks to production staff based on priorities from the Project Management Office;
  • Supports, guides, and facilitates the team through the project process; Effectively resolves issues and manages risks;
  • Keep appropriate records according to standing procedures;
  • Ensuring that projects are subject to inspection and review at appropriate stages;
  • liaise with QC / Product Assurance to handle technical issues in the production process;
  • Provide feedback on production status: materials, work in progress, work completed, and issues arising to PMO and senior management
  • People management and motivation of staff
  • Implement plans to improve production team competencies;
  • Provide necessary tools and materials required by production team;
  • Oversee store functions;
  • To liaise with customers on any production related matters
  • Support to Quality Management with the QC / Product Assurance Manager;
  • Comply with the requirements of the NSS Business Management System;
  • To keep records pertinent to the system, KPI’s, etc. To assist in the annual external Audit process

NewSpace Systems (NSS) is a fast-growing, state-of-the-art spacecraft component manufacturer based in Somerset West, South Africa. We are looking for an Assembly Technician to join our rapidly growing production team. The main focus of the position will be to support the manufacture of electronic equipment for use in satellite-based systems.

  • You will be trained in the demanding assembly requirements of building equipment for space products.
  • You will be expected to undertake extensive training in through- hole, surface mount component assembly and wiring and crimping techniques to international standards.
  • This job description reflects the present requirements of the post. As duties and responsibilities change and develop, the job description will be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary training in electronic engineering technology.

Experience:

  • At least five years assembling complex and high reliability electro-mechanical equipment (preferably to IPC-3 level).

Prerequisites:

  • Appreciation of ISO9001 requirements.
  • Familiarity with working in a highly controlled assembly environment such as military or medical equipment.
  • Ability to work to tight schedules while maintaining high quality manufacture.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work with small components and assemblies extensively using a microscope on a daily basis.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electronic drawings.
  • Be self-motivated and have a willingness to learn.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time and work to deadlines.
  • The post holder will be required to interact frequently and effectively with other Company team members.

Job Specification

Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with senior management and project engineers
  • Planning and sequencing of workflow through the different manufacturing processes
  • Hand soldering of through hole and surface mount components
  • Assembly of complex harnessing.
  • Assisting in any aspect of the build and test of space equipment.

Beneficial experiences:

  • Familiarity with assembly for space environment.
  • Familiarity with clean room procedures.
  • Previous supervisory responsibility for a team of assemblers.
  • Assembly of optical systems.
  • Familiarity with electronic testing of boards, sub-assemblies and completed units.
  • Familiarity with traceability requirements and stores procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office (Word and Excel)
