The NewSpace Systems team in Somerset West has a permanent position available for an electronic design engineer to take responsibility for electronic design, development and verification on various projects working within a multidisciplinary team.

Minimum Requirements


·         M.Sc degree in Mechatronics Engineering from a recognized institution or ·         B.Sc in Mechatronics Engineering from a recognized institution plus >3 years relevant practical experience.

Experience (ideally within aerospace or defence industry):

·         High-reliability electronic product design, realisation and environmental testing (>3 years) ·         Schematic creation and simulation (>3 years) (Altium Designer) ·         Embedded software development (>3 years) (C, C++) ·         Mechanical design (Solid Works)

Additional knowledge areas that would strengthen the application:

·         Optical/Optomechanical system design ·         Labview-based test facility design, programming and realization (>3years) ·         FPGA development (VHDL based) (>3 years) ·         Thermal and structural analysis

Job Specification

Design and develop electronic products used in spacecraft related systems and their associated test and calibration systems: ·         Attending requirement and proposal discussions with clients when required. ·         Derive technical specifications for system requirements. ·         Research, develop and testing of theoretical and conceptual designs. ·         Derive component requirements for the electronic design using traceable and qualified components. ·         Simulate/test the design at various levels, ensuring that a product will work with devices developed by others and will perform reliably and consistently in specified operation environments. ·         Documentation and review of all aspects during design phases. ·         Design and develop embedded firmware for micro-controller and FPGA based applications. ·         Test the hardware and firmware; implement corrections as necessary. ·         Mechanical design of enclosures and interfaces, interacting with sub-contractors and resolving manufacturing issues. ·         Support and maintaining of the current product portfolio with the engineering team.

NewSpace Systems (NSS) is looking for a Production Supervisor to join our highly skilled team in Somerset West, South Africa. NSS specializes in the manufacturing of advanced satellite components. The successful candidate will be responsible for production management of aerospace products, to ensure efficient assembly of products to the highest quality.

Minimum Requirements


  • BSc in Engineering, or equivalent degree related to manufacturing of high-reliability space or aerospace components (preferable).

Experience & Knowledge:

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in manufacturing and people management
  • Successful track record of managing production projects (>5 years) preferable in the aerospace or defence environment
  • Knowledge of production methodologies, visual management systems and tools
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Experience and organizational skills in supervision and management of production activities, staff, and facilities.
  • Sufficient technical and organizational skills to respond to typical electronics production issues
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality Management systems.

Job Specification


Reporting To: Chief Operations Officer Production Management:
  • Oversee manufacture of aerospace products for different projects;
  • Set out the weekly plans and daily work activities to follow the required production targets agreed with the Project Management Office;
  • Assign tasks to production staff based on priorities from the Project Management Office;
  • Supports, guides, and facilitates the team through the project process; Effectively resolves issues and manages risks;
  • Keep appropriate records according to standing procedures;
  • Ensuring that projects are subject to inspection and review at appropriate stages;
  • liaise with QC / Product Assurance to handle technical issues in the production process;
  • Provide feedback on production status: materials, work in progress, work completed, and issues arising to PMO and senior management
  • People management and motivation of staff
  • Implement plans to improve production team competencies;
  • Provide necessary tools and materials required by production team;
  • Oversee store functions;
  • To liaise with customers on any production related matters
  • Support to Quality Management with the QC / Product Assurance Manager;
